Timothy Castagne would have been a “brilliant” signing for Everton after making the move to Fulham, according to Ben Grounds.
The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on 29 August that the full-back area remains an “area of weakness” for the Toffees after they lost their opening three games of the Premier League season.
He believes the Belgian international would have been the ideal signing for the Blues, but the Cottagers nipped in their first to complete the capture of the 27-year-old defender from Leicester City for £15million on 29 August [BBC Sport].
Timothy Castagne would have been a brilliant signing for Everton. £15m for a 27-year-old Belgium international who can play both at left and right back makes a lot more sense than spending that amount on a project young forward. Full-back area remains a real area of weakness #EFC

Has a point
After Everton have looked a bit shaky in the fullback positions so far this season, Grounds probably has a point that Castagne would’ve been a good signing.
He believes the Toffees should’ve been going for someone like the Belgian instead of a “project young forward” after securing the signing of Youssef Chermiti for the same fee earlier this month.
While it is refreshing to see the Blues go for younger players following years of signing journeymen, perhaps this isn’t the time for those kinds of deals due to the lack of quality in the squad at the moment in time.
Castagne is an experienced international, having racked up 33 caps for Belgium, as well as featuring heavily for Leicester in the Premier League since arriving from Atalanta in 2020.
He can also play in either of the fullback positions, potentially adding more quality than Sean Dyche currently has at his disposal on either flank, so they may have missed a trick on this one.
In other Everton news, the Cottagers are plotting a Goodison raid as they have a Blues midfielder in their sights.
