Everton will only add to their squad before the transfer deadline with a late loan move if possible, according to Sky Sports News journalist Alan Irwin.
Irwin shared live on the Deadline Day Countdown on Friday (1 September, 20:42) that the Toffees will only make a deadline day signing should a late loan move be agreed upon in the final hours of the transfer window.
The Toffees were hopeful of signing one of Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto or Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana but both targets required fees upwards of £30m to complete, which Everton were neither able nor prepared to pay this late in the window.
Dyche has been restricted throughout the transfer market due to the dire financial state at Goodison Park and despite no official announcement, Alex Iwobi’s departure to Fulham is set to be confirmed before the 11 pm deadline.
Bad end to a bad summer
Everton are very lucky they got their deal for Beto over the line well before the transfer deadline, otherwise, this would have turned out to have been a disastrous window as well as a disastrous start to the season for the Toffees.

Throughout the summer Dyche’s side haven’t been able to acquire the targets that they identified because of the financial fair play issues currently looming over Goodison Park and it has seemingly left Everton in an incredibly weak position at the end of the window.
If a late loan addition isn’t added before the 11 p.m. deadline, Everton will be looking incredibly light on the wings, with Demari Gray still likely to depart for the Saudi Pro League before their transfer window closes on 7 September on top of Iwobi’s impending departure.
Hopefully, something miraculous can occur between now and the end of deadline day and Dyche and his team will find an incredible loan in the final hours as at the moment it looks like it could be a long season for the Toffees with their current squad.
