Injury update for FC Barcelona’s Pedri and Ronald Araújo: when will they be back? – AS USA

BARCELONA
FC Barcelona have started the LaLiga 23/24 season off in decent fashion, winning three (Cádiz, Villarreal & Osasuna) and drawing one (Getafe) of their four games as they look to retain the title. However, they have had to do so without two huge players: Pedri and Araújo, who have been injured for a large part of the campaign.
Both players are key in Xavi’s system, and the side have had to adapt in order to fill the gaps left by the absences. But what injuries do they have and how serious are they? Also, how long is left before they return?

The midfielder suffered what Barcelona labelled “an injury to his right thigh”. At the time, the statement’s length highlighted perfectly the sense of worry that flooded the streets of the city: Pedri has suffered an injury to his right thigh. He is out of action and the evolution of the injury will determine his availability.”
Barcelona are taking their time with both Pedri and Araújo, and will not rush them back under any circumstances. This is not the first time that Pedri has suffered this issue: last season he was absent for over 2 months with an injury to his right thigh and as such, Barcelona are taking the utmost care with his recovery this time. Now, it seems that the player will be out for around 6 weeks, meaning he could be back some time in October.
Ronald Araújo was injured in training towards the end of August, and suffered the same injury as Pedri. Again, Barcelona’s statement was not giving away any secrets: “Ronald Araujo has injured the femoral biceps in the hamstring of his left leg and will be unavailable for selection until the injury clears up.”
Araújo is in pretty much working under the same routine as his teammate, and is expected to be out for around 5 weeks, despite a lack of official confirmation from the club. In the same way as Pedri, given the high possibility of a relapse with this type of injury, Araújo will not be risked at all in his recovery process. He could be back by the end of September.
Barcelona’s next league game is after the upcoming international break and will be against Real Betis, on September 16. After that, they make their UEFA Champions League debut in the 23/24 (here’s the full draw), and will look to put the European ghosts to bed after their horror show in the continental tournament last season. They play against Antwerp on September 19.
