The offices in Barcelona are burning the midnight oil through deadline day to pull off a serious heist. The Blaugranas refuse to hold back despite their financial struggle and hope to sign both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo before the transfer window closes.
All their plans, however, hinge around a fundamental economic lever to evade Financial Fair Play issues.
In their current situation, Barça simply cannot sign any new players owing to a lack of space on the FFP front. Joan Laporta planned for an investment from German firm Libero to provide the required economic injection, but there have been some delays in its arrival.
The club president and the treasurer, Ferran Olive, are thus placing a personal guarantee of €10 million to get clearance for FFP.
According to the latest report from RAC1, La Liga has already received the documentation of Barcelona’s €10 million guarantee for FFP. They are currently reviewing the documentation but the validation process could take some time.
Less than six hours remain before the transfer window officially closes in Spain, leaving the club offices with little time to process the arrivals.
La Liga’s delayed validation of the club’s documentation thus comes as an unexpected and unnecessary hurdle in Barcelona’s deadline day plans.
Joao Felix has already landed in Barcelona to complete his move to Xavi Hernandez’s side. With the Blaugranas having an agreement in place with both Atletico Madrid and the player, La Liga’s clearance is the final hurdle.
Joao Cancelo’s transfer is in similar waters. The player has also landed in the city where he will undergo his medicals as a new player.
All eyes, as it stands, are on the La Liga offices in anticipation of the green light.
