Liverpool plays its final match before the end of the transfer window today. Uncharacteristically, there is still a reasonable chance that Jürgen Klopp's squad looks reasonably different by the time the first post-deadline fixture rolls around.
There is a sense that the most important business has already been done, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai the centerpieces of Klopp's next great midfield. Wataru Endō may be a slightly more short-term addition, but it looks increasingly unlikely that a truly 'marquee' number six will follow him through the door, with Liverpool content to put its faith in the Japan captain for the time being.
But further moves will be more than mere window dressing. Liverpool could really use another center-back to enhance its depth, with a recent setback for Ibrahima Konaté serving as a timely reminder that Klopp is currently relying on a number of injury-prone players.

In midfield, too, assembling a truly competitive squad is the name of the game. To that end, a $51m transfer bid has supposedly gone in. Meanwhile, Manchester United has turned its attention to a player who has previously interested Liverpool.
Here are the latest Liverpool.com stories that you can't afford to miss.
Liverpool has made its move for Ryan Gravenberch, submitting a proposal to Bayern Munich. That's according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The offer is worth $52m (£41m/€48m). However, the Italian outfit claims the bid was immediately rejected by officials in Bavaria, who remain keen on keeping hold of Gravenberch.
Despite the club's apparent reluctance to sell, Gravenberch is yet to feature under Tuchel in the new campaign, spending two games on the bench. He is said to be keen on a Liverpool switch as a result.

Liverpool tends to let talents from South America make intermediate moves before seeking to lure them to Anfield. But in a summer that saw the club table a $138m (£110m/€128m) proposal for Moisés Caicedo, FSG could not be blamed for changing tack.
What was once a shrewd way of managing risks has become a bit of an obstacle in a market where value is increasingly hard to find, particularly when up against sides with near-limitless resources. And Liverpool has shown a bit of flexibility recently, with links to André of Fluminense.
It doesn't look like anything will come of that this summer. Supposed interest in Marcos Leonardo of Santos met the same fate last year — Brazilian TV presenter Milton Neves (via Sport Witness) claimed he was 'on his way' to Liverpool, but he is yet to make the switch anywhere.
Now, it seems Manchester United could take up the pursuit. Leonardo, who faced off against André last month in a 1-0 defeat, will be the subject of a $27m (£22m/€25m) bid. That's per Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness.
