Real Betis summer signing was “desperate” to leave previous club according to Sporting Director – Football Espana

Ramon Planes, who joined Real Betis as their new Sporting Director towards the back-end of last season, had a very successful first transfer window at the club. Several new signings arrived which have strengthened Manuel Pellegrini’s squad as they look to have a successful season.
One of those to join Betis this summer was Marc Bartra. The former Barcelona defender, who had also previously played for Los Verdiblancos, returned to the club during the transfer window as a free agent, having agreed a mutual contract termination with Turkish club Trabzonspor.
Speaking to Marca on Betis’ transfer window, Planes opened up on the circumstances surrounding Bartra’s arrival.
“He was desperate (to join), he called every day. He left because of a good contract situation.
“In those countries, as we talk about Saudi Arabia, you have to understand that they are brutal economic amounts. The difference is very big, but then you go there and you realise everything you have lost. I think he realised that he wanted to come back and that’s what he told us. I told him ‘don’t worry, we’re going to do it’.
“When the possibility to sign him arrived, Marc immediately told us yes. He knew Pellegrini, he knew the club too. The season is very long and he is going to help us in many ways.”
Bartra is sure to be an important player for Real Betis this season, as the Andalusians look to be competitive in LaLiga and in the Europa League.
