Pickford has his lapses in concentration, undeniably, but there are few keepers in the Premier League that keep that out of the back of the net.
He could not do much for the own goal as he dived for the ball and it deflected off the post and went in off his back.
It was a spirited effort from the side and much better than recent games so there are some positives to take into the international break.
Sean Dyche will certainly be working extremely hard with the players during the next two weeks as they need to take their game to the next level.
Defensively too, they looked all over the place and there is no cohesion in midfield so these things need to be worked out on the training ground.
In other Everton news, a club chief had revealed his plans to sign a first-team Toffees player imminently ahead of the deadline.
